Our hearts are oh so happy! We had so much fun taking Valentine photos this year. It’s actually harder to get the solo shots these days because either one wants to be in the other’s photos. The love these two have for each other is real. Kayla is the best big sister I’ve ever seen and it melts my heart daily. She takes such good care of Cameron whether she’s helping him walk up and down stairs, getting his shoes on or running to say, “what’s wrong buddy?” when she hears him cry. I don’t even go running anymore because he’s happy two seconds after she gets to him. And Cameron wants Kayla to join him in whatever activity he’s doing. If he wants her to come play he yells, “come on, KAYA!!!” and when he wants her to ride his Thomas train he pats the back and says, “sissy sit here”. Kayla is also the only one he listens to most of the time. I can ask him to get in the car and be completely ignored but if Kayla says, “come on, Cams, let’s get in the car” he comes running. Let’s be honest, I do get to use this to my advantage quite a bit. 😉
I’m excited to say the annual birthday pics and St. Patrick’s Day pics have already been taken. Now to get them posted in a timely manner…for once.
This is a throwback to that time I forgot to post our Thanksgiving update. Our thanksgiving was wonderful although we were missing two very important men at our table. Uncle Jason who is currently stationed in Iraq and Uncle Bunny who moved and started his career in Nebraska. Cameron was indeed in “feast mode”, as is the norm for him. He loves to eat and will try anything once. Kayla stuck to turkey, a tiny bit of macaroni, maybe tasted some marshmallows on top of the sweet potatoes and smelled a roll. World’s pickiest eater.
It was also our first Thanksgiving without my grandmother, or as the kids called her, “doo-doo”. Her presence was very much missed but her macaroni and cheese and cheese potatoes live on in our hearts and tummies forever. I know she was there in spirit, with her glass of wine, sampling all the food before the guests arrived and telling inappropriate jokes. We miss you grandma and will never forget your overwhelmingly loving heart, sense of humor and stubborn will 😉 Salut!

This holiday season was crazy, hence the after-Christmas post. I also may or may not have gone a little crazy on pictures this year as well. I can’t help it! They let me have so much fun, I can’t stop. Miss Kayla has really gotten into this over the years. She wants to help with everything and be in every picture. However that usually comes with the price of a ridiculous face, pose or prop. Cameron, on the other hand, is more into destroying anything we set up and being bribed to sit still for what feels like a millisecond.
Although busy, it has been so fun seeing them get into all things Christmas and holiday. Kayla has been singing “Oh Hanukkah” all over the place, we visited the holiday train and the enchanted garden at Descanso. She asked every day to go by the house on Florence and look at their lights. I love that house too but Cameron doesn’t understand why he can’t ride the train. When I told him we couldn’t ride it he started crying, “touch it! touch it!”. Poor thing. Needless to say Santa came through for him with some trains, cars and airplanes. Kayla also loved waking up every morning to find her elf (on the shelf). A few mornings it was way earlier than normal wake up time and she’d come running excitedly into our room asking us to come see. Cameron really got into it too, even finding him before her a couple times. We started a new tradition this year with a mailbox (this one). She “mails” her letter to Santa and for the 12 days leading up to Christmas she gets a tiny surprise like a piece of candy. On Christmas day she stopped during the festivities to tell me that this was the best Christmas ever. She still really wants My First Fashion Designer (whatever that is) but she’s beyond happy which makes my heart smile. That’s all I could ever ask for.
Quick fashion note – I was pretty obsessed with Kayla’s Christmas dress. I don’t remember noticing the hi-low rise when I bought it but it photographed beautifully! She loved the sparkles and approved of it immediately at Nordstrom. One of the few times we both agreed on an outfit 😉 Oh, and Cam the little man in the bottom pic, I mean…
We hope everyone is having a very happy holiday season. Cheers to an amazing 2018!!!

The Figueroa fam has been very into the Halloween spirit this year. Kayla wanted to start decorating in September! We ended up getting started the first week of October and she was so excited to help. She’s into all things spooky lately. She’s been singing a “spooky spooky” song she learned in school and re-telling us the Halloween stories they read as well.
Kayla has known what she was going to be for Halloween since she saw Descendants 2 earlier this year. She’s now seen both Descendants 1 and 2 at least 20 times. She loves Evie because she’s into fashion along with her friend Dizzy. She even has Evie’s fashion book and has us read it to her every night. Although Kayla likes her blue hair, she opted not to wear a wig or spray her hair blue (which is OK with us). It’s been fun watching her dress up as Evie and play the part. She insisted on holding the apple in her pictures and not smiling because “she’s wicked”. She’s definitely got a passion for dramatic play. I often have to pretend I’m Mal and she is Evie or Dizzy and doing my hair or showing me a jacket she “made”.
We’ve been pumpkin patch-hopping this year and it’s been fun watching the two of them take it all in together. Cameron loves the pumpkins and Kayla loves the games although he wants to do absolutely everything his big sister does. Which is adorable but also means double the tickets for every ride and game! Regardless, this season has been a blast and I can’t wait for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I’m not gonna lie, I think Cameron had a better time taking pictures this time around than Kayla. He went crazy for the little pool and he loves anything with wheels so he was in heaven. Although not so much into the pictures, Kayla IS very much into learning about the United States. She’s learned the names of all 50 states and now wants to know who lives in each state and what’s there. Needless to say we do not know people in all 50 states so we’ve resorted to naming politicians. She keeps us on our toes with her seemingly endless questions but we love her unquenchable desire to learn.
As for the clothes, Kayla picked out her own Gymboree outfits so she of course loved those. And her love for headbands continues. The bow dress that I picked out was not her favorite because apparently bows are cute but only when they’re tiny. She hated the big blue bow on her dress even though it’s clearly adorable.
Kayla is excited to celebrate 4th of July this year and is so ready for red, white and blue popsicles and fireworks. I had thought last year was going to be the year she’d finally love fireworks but she didn’t like the sound! We watch them from about 2 miles away so I have no idea why the sound scared her but she’s let us know that she’s not afraid this year. We’re probably not going to let the little “zilla” as we call him stay up for the show as he needs every bit of sleep he can get! Until next year for his reaction.
We wish everyone a very happy and safe 4th of July!!!
One more because he loved it that much…

Hippity Hoppity Easter’s on its way! Our lil bunnies are so ready for Easter. Eggs dyed…check, Easter outfits…check, torturous trip to the Easter Bunny…check. Poor Cameron did NOT like the Easter Bunny one bit (see below). Just like his big sister at that age. We dyed eggs today whilst Cam was napping so that “babyzilla” would not destroy the entire experience. He always wants to do whatever big sister is doing and that usually means walking or crawling up and sitting right on top of whatever Kayla is playing with. I can only imagine what it would have looked like had he done that with the 16 cups of dye in front of her. Kayla had fun meticulously dying and glittering each one of her eggs. We can’t wait to watch her find them all tomorrow!
Bedtime is usually a long, drawn-out ordeal. “I need one more huggy”, “I have to go potty”, “I want a cup of milk”, “tell me a story”, followed by 20 random questions and hours of singing to herself in bed. But tonight, she actually asked me to leave! She said, “I want you to leave, I need to go to sleep so the Easter Bunny can come”. That was it, she was out. She’s so excited and I love it. Can she stay like this forever?
Special credit to Kayla and Cameron’s Nonna for these Easter ensembles. Kayla loved her dress and rainbow outfit. She’s worn them both many times already. And let’s just say we’ve got some good bribery material for Cam when he’s older 😉
I don’t usually do St. Patrick’s Day photos buuuuuut, the outfits were there and I was feeling the holiday this year. So, literally on our way out the door to school we took some quick pics. They were such troopers, unusually willing to entertain their mamma. Maybe it was the unlimited Lucky Charm consumption that was going on.
Kayla loved her festive tunic and kept asking why only one shamrock was green. She decided it was because it was the most special one. At school, they were visited by little leprechauns. There were little green hand and footprints all over the room and even green pee in the toilet bowls! They had a hunt for shamrock coins and gold nuggets. She was very excited to share that she had found the most coins of anyone in her class. When I picked her up from school, she had a green donut waiting in her seat (which she quickly devoured). It was a very happy St. Patrick’s Day had by all 🙂
